The Team Viking/Ursus Capital quartet of Mark Holme, Colin Kingsnorth, Nick Nunn and Craig Butterworth, came home in 32nd place at the annual Spa 25hrs Fun Cup race last weekend, out of 115 starters.
“We did qualifying session one and just scraped into the top group with five minutes to go. So we got into the A group for the next session and I was fairly consistent, as there was only time for one driver, setting my best time of the weekend in the dry session,” Holme explained.
In the draw for the race starting grid they pulled out 47th and it was Holme that took the opening stint. After the first hour they were 36th, before completing his 90 minute drive to hand over to Nunn.
“I fell into a dangerous group as we pushed on, I could see there would be some carnage, so dropped out of and became a follower for self-preservation,” he added.
At the three-hour mark they were a flattering 10th overall as they left their fuel stop until virtually the last opportunity.
It had started to rain during Nunn’s stint and continued for the rest of the race, as they continued to run inside the top 30, reaching half distance in 18th place.
“It was important for us that strategy calls found us opportunities. The car was good all weekend and maybe we didn’t race at 100% or we may have been off. Probably our true position was around 26th, but we had some bad luck when Craig was black flagged in his final stint. It lost us another three laps,” said Holme.
It was odd circumstances, there was a car off at Les Fagnes and yellow flags out, I braked harder so slow down but touched the gravel and it was deemed inappropriate,” Butterworth added.
“So Colin went in for the last stint and came home 32nd.” It was our best result as the whole team drove well,” Holme concluded.
